Use an old piece of technology
Today I used a floppy drive to transfer my data from my home to my school account. To be honest it was harder that a USB because USB stores far more data then a floppy drive. A floppy drive can only store 2 MB of data. By using a floppy drive I realized the importance of technology in our lives. Floppies are much harder to use than the modern technology and they are not realiable, you can lose data easily. In contrast USB's are much more realiable and data can not be lost. Floppy has a bigger size than a USB in volume, therefore carring floppy is harder than carring USB. You will mostly find only one colour of floppy (black) and in only one shape but for USB you will find many colours and many designs.

Now-a-days people like to listen to the music (mp3,mp4) now haveing a Floppy will not help them but if you have a flash drive you can at least take a listen to the music.A floppy and a USB both work in the same manner, except that one (USB) can hold more information then other. Both can be used to write and erase data as much as you want. The speed of Storing data in USB is much faster then storing data in a floppy drive. To conclude in speed, capacity, size and reliability USB (modern tecnology) is far better than floppy (old technology). Lets face it, the floppy drive is slower and you can damage and loss data easily, and frankly they just aren’t as cool to use!

Field Assignment - Try something open source

Best open source software out there:
FIREFOX!

Firefox makes up almost 20% of the worlds web browser usage, only second to (the terrible) Internet Explorer. What makes it so desirable is its huge customization features available, as well as the thousands of user add-ons created for everyone's daily needs.

And because its open source, anyone is constantly improving on its design. The best part is that its being deigned by users, for users! Who else knows what the people really want in their browser than the people themselves?

I urge anyone who is still using IE to make the switch to the new Firefox 3.0 now!

Cinematographer/ Editer ya'll

SORRY THIS IS LATE AND REALLY BAD, I HAD TO RE-DO THIS THREE TIMES NOW, I GUESS THE DATA GOT CORRUPT, SORRY BISHY

Ok my career choice would be Videographer/ Editor- in snowboarding! This would be a awesome career choice for me because I love filming/ editing/ snowboarding/ skateboarding. Some of the challenges of my job would be filming in conditions of -20, getting kicked out of spots, countless hours sitting infront of a computer editing, and many more I can't think of/ don't know about. I would get to film and snowboard with pros, meet a ton of boarder babes, and shred and tweak- all over the world! I would also go to the premires all over the world (example: MDP's Double Decade and KOS's No Correct Way premireing October 4th at princess twin cinema uptown! Get your tix at meltdown!) ! Mack Dawg Productions, MDP's People crew, Kids On Shred Productions, Team Thunder, and Sandbox Productions are just a few examples of production companies in this industry! I have no idea how much they make but its gotta be alot! You would have to go to college for Cinematography, go to a couple video workshops, make friends in the industry to help get you the job, and intern at the production company you would want to work for just to get in! My equipment would consist of Panny HVX200/ Sony VX1000 and Final Cut, represent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Animaion carrier

I want to be an animator because I enjoy animating. The most frequent job requirements for Flash animation are to have solid experience in Flash animation and Actionscript. I basically have that already so I’m set, I just need to learn a bit more in Actionscript such as the ‘do while’ command, changing the stage size, and drawing vectors programmatically. Flash animation isn’t the only career there is in animation. There’s also 3D character animation, environmental effects, and special effects (just to name a few). Video gaming seams to be pretty popular, and it makes sense because the production values of video games now a days are going through the roof, because of that; game developers such as Naughty Dog and Insomniac are really trying their best to make their work place seem more attractive than ever. Their requirements for the job include experience with Maya (3D modeler/animation tool) and a BA degree in post-secondary education. Animators work as a team so communication is very important. Generally, animators will earn $45,000 to $80,000 a year.

Photography : )

Job Description ..
Photographers use either traditional cameras that record images on film that is then developed into prints, or digital cameras that electronically record images that can then be downloaded to a computer and printed out. Those who use traditional cameras may also develop their own film, which is a complicated process involving a darkroom and treating the film or prints in a series of chemical and water baths. Others choose to send their film to laboratories for processing. Before they can take a picture, photographers have to make many technical decisions. First they must decide what equipment will be needed to best shoot their subject. They have to choose the appropriate cameras, lenses, filters, film stocks, and lighting equipment. If they have to rely on natural light, as nature photographers and photojournalist often do, this usually means positioning themselves in the right place to get the best effect with the light available, or waiting until the light is just right.

Earnings..
Photographers can be full-time employees of newspapers, magazines, other photographers, advertising agencies, or a wide variety of other companies. However, many photographers work part-time, or as freelancers, offering their services to several clients rather than being restricted to one organization or individual. Most full-time photographers earn between $30,000 and $55,000 a year. The national average wage for all photographers is just over $16 an hour. This translates to roughly $34,000 a year for those who can find full-time work. Those working for newspapers and periodicals tend to make more than those working for other professional or scientific services. Full-time photographers with lots of experience and good reputations can make over $100,000 a year.

Education..
There are no specific educational requirements for freelance or portrait photographers. However, in today’s job market, you are unlikely to get much work without at least some training in the photographic arts, whether it’s acquired through a formal degree or diploma program, vocational training, or extensive work experience. Many photographers benefit from the discipline and training of a formal education. Photographers who want to find work as photojournalists, or in industrial or scientific photography, are generally expected to have a degree or diploma in an area such as journalism or photography. Degrees in visual arts and communications may also be acceptable when combined with a demonstrated proficiency with a camera. In addition to teaching them about things like equipment, film processing, and composition, post-secondary programs usually offer aspiring photographers the opportunity to build their portfolio. A portfolio is a collection of samples of a photographer’s work. It is evidence of his or her talent and skill, and its contents are often the deciding factor when potential employers are deciding whether or not they want to hire the services of the photographer. A good portfolio is crucial to finding work.

3D Modeler

Careers Assignment

A 3D modeler is a person who creates small scale models of real objects on a computer for use in movies, or animated films. They make objects that range from still objects to objects that move, objects like tables to people or animals. A main modeling process is called Polygonal Modeling. Polygonal Modeling is points in 3D space, called vertices that are connected in a linear fashion to form a polygonal mesh. The vast majority of 3D models today are built as textured polygonal models. These models are the most flexible and easiest to work with. Another process is called NURBS. NURBS surfaces are defined by Spline curves, which are influenced by weighted control points. Increasing the weight of one point will pull the curve closer to that point. NURBS are particularly suitable for organic modeling.
As a 3D modeler you can sell your old models on an online marketplace specifically designed for modelers to sell off old models. You can make more money off of old models because companies can save a lot of money by buying a pre-made model instead of hiring someone to create one from scratch. This is a great way to make money and create a name for yourself as a 3D modeler.
To become a 3D modeler you are required to have a minimum qualification of an arts degree through college or university. Great experience with computers and software that you would use in the workplace. Such as Lightwave, this program is used in the industry today to create 3D models to be used in games and film.

Career Choice.....

I wish to persue the career path of a Graphic Designer!! I use photoshop a lot so that is why it interests me. The career focuses on professional visual communication involving logos and anything to do with designing and developing a visual product. Some graphic designers work as independently and others just with companies to create the business or company's "identity" with various graphic and visual communications. Usually the desired work experience for hiring is around 1-3 years (from my research) and it varies a lot for different jobs. Sometimes they ask for a College-University education for a job, but other times, only a few years of experince in the feild. Junior graphic designers typically make between $20,000 and $57,000 a year. In the intermediet feild, anywhere between 25,000 and 90,000 dollars a year!!

Field Assignment - ASCII Art

Here is an example of ASCII art. ASCII or text art was primarily used from the 60's to the early 90's mainly because the printers back then didn't have good support for graphics and ASCII art helped save on ink. During the 90's, graphics and picture files seen today developed as well as better printing capabilities and ASCII art soon faded out of use.

BrainFACE

So I have a bunch of ideas for this class' Brainface logo, but my favourite is the brain wearing cap. Basically the logo describes our group in the sense that we have smarts AND style, which is the total package of course :). I wanted to stick to a logo which is simple so it's easy to see from any distance, and so anyone can draw it from memory. I stuck with two bold colours, but I also created this logo in black & white making it a more versatile design to use. As mentioned before, I really like the simplistic appearance. I think there could be a slight alteration in colour, font of "BF" and maybe the shape of the brain. .. Oh and I used Illustrator . .

z'all good, m.l.

Brain Face Logo

I used the Bezier tool to draw simple shapes then I curved the lines with the Shape tool so the shapes would become letters (all done in CorelDRAW). I wanted to make the letters colourful so they would stand out, and made the eyes green because everything else looked like crap and didn’t belong. The logo means 'we’re watching you!'
(The final version of this logo is available in vector format)

Logo Description:

My logo for BrainFace consists of a purple brain with glasses to represent “BrainFace” and a light bulb around the smart-looking brain to show that the BrainFace people are super smart. The little stripes on the bulb represent light rays from either the brain or the bulb. And lastly, the logo name is printed in a modern-looking font and warped in a “flag” shape to make it look more appealing.

Harmony (Unity)

Unity (Harmony):

A principal which concerns the objects and elements in a work of art. Making subjects in a work fit together harmoniously is the emphasis of unity. Having unity in a piece makes it feel whole, for example, two separate objects in a picture can be made to fit in it harmoniously so they belong more naturally in the piece and don’t seem like two “separate” objects anymore. One way is to group the objects/subjects closely together – this allows the eye to recognize a pattern in the picture. This is called proximity.

Another method to support unity is applying repetition to the image. This involves repetition of colours, shapes, textures, or objects to unify the image.

Unity also engages in continuation; a method using the continuance of lines, edges, or direction from one area to the next, making the picture as a whole and each subject less alienated.

Emphasis

Emphasis simply refers to the focal point of the design. There are three main ways to emphasize the main element of a design: Emphasis by contrast, emphasis by isolation, and emphasis by placement.

Emphasis by Contrast:
Having the focal point of a design a bright color against a darker/muted background will create a stark contrast. You can also create contrasts using vertical/horizontal images, regular/irregular shapes, and size.

Emphasis by Isolation:
If many objects are grouped closely together in a design, an object placed by itself will stand out as the focal point.

Emphasis by Placement:
Objects placed near the centre of a design are frequently the focal point of the design.

HK

Texture

Texture is the feeling that you get when you rub your finger along something and it has many different patterns but that is not the only texture possible. Any 3-D image that you would look like and has different ripples is texture. So looking at a body of water and it has ripples in it show texture.

26. field assignments

This is a great piece of graphic design because, it really advertises the fact that it is for a ski snowboard festival and they do that by putting the two main characters the skier and the boarder right in the middle. Then they show kind of that it is a party and a really good time for people who love dancing and partying to some great music. they also throw in the date and everything just to make sure people know when to go. They use a great amount of space and great color choices for the theme.

HM Field Assignment - Ransom Letter

okay, here is a ransom letter i made in photoshop cs3. Basically, i found a bunch of letters on the web, and with the help of photoshop, I rearranged the letters to form a message. I then I added a background of question marks.. just to make it more mysterious... Above is a jpeg of all the letter i used in order to form the message, and the actual message itself.

Element of Design - Line - by HM

Lines

Lines are a very basic, yet fundamental element of design. When used correctly, lines can be very effective. Below, I will summarize some effects that you can create by using different shapes, and thicknesses of the line.

Horizontal lines convey a feeling of calm and quiet. When you think of a horizon, you think peaceful thoughts. Part of this is because of the use of horizontal lines.

Vertical lines bring out movement, or a high potential for movement. For example, think of a picture in a fast moving car - most of the lines are very “fast” (i.e. straight and vertical).

Diagonal lines also suggest movement, but are used to portray a different kind of motion. Whereas vertical lines bring about a sense of extremely fast motion, diagonal lines suggest a slower movement, and a smaller motion, usually. For example, a diagonal line may be effective for showing an object tipping over.

An effect that can be created by lines is crosshatching. This effect can be used to create areas of grey inside a drawing, and create a shading effect. Adding many lines that are very close together adds value to that area, and having less lines, more spread out, gives little value. Using this technique can add a very effective shading effect.

Using horizontal and vertical lines in conjunction can communicate stability and solidity. Having a rectilinear form suggests that the object is not likely to tip over, and therefore, suggests permanence, reliability and safety.

Another type of line that you can draw is deep, acute curves. These create an effect of confusion, turbulence, panic, or even frenzy. Think of the violence of waves in a storm.

There are many other types of lines you can use, but these are just the basics. Try drawing a line-only drawing, and you’ll be surprised what you’ll come up with!

-- MOVEMENT --

Movement is the path our eyes follow when we look at a work of art. The purpose of movement is to create unity in the artwork with eye travel. This can be achieved by using repetition, rhythm, and action. Movement ties the work together by relating the various components of a work together.

-- VALUE --

Value determines how light or dark any given image is. If the value is low, then the image will be darker; but if the value is high, then the image will be lighter. Artists and graphic designers often make objects of further distances have a higher value so the viewer will get the impression that it’s further away, while making closer objects having a more neutral value so the hue can standout and look closer than the rest. The screenshot below really makes good use of this effect as the closer objects have more colour and distant buildings are lighter which gives you a better idea of the 3D space in that picture. Certain environmental conditions can affect value: such as fog, smog, haze, and mist increasing value; and nightfall and smoke decreasing value.

-- RHYTHM --

Rhythm is a design principal based upon the repetition of elements and patterns that are the same. The repition of a design element can lead a viewer to a focal point or control the direction and speed of the viewers attention. The key rhythm is shape and repetition, you can create smooth transitions as well as hard and abrupt. Alternating rhythmic patterns can make new sequence.

We use Rhythm in images because if we repeat the same pattern and then add light and dark contrast to it adds balance and harmony, making it more three-dimensional.

-- TEXTURE --

Visual texture is the illusion of a 3-dimensional surface. A 2D surface can be made to "look" 3D simply by adding texture and depth to the picture. You may not be able to "feel" the texture but you can still "see" that it is there. In some cases, a viewer is almost tempted to reach out and touch the picture, thinking it will have a real texture. Texture is yet another clever way to deceive the eye into thinking and seeing something that really isn't true.

-- COLOUR --

COLOUR

We are in a world where colour dominates our lives, from reading signs on the road to seeing if fruit is good to eat. It affects our moods like, blue is calming - red can make us tense. We use and experience colour everyday in our lives without even appreciating it.

The visible spectrum of colour consists of seven main colours shown below in the picture:

“ Colour is basically light of different wavelengths and frequencies and it simply comes from the light”

Higher frequency colours are - violet - indigo - blue

lower frequency colours are - yellow - orange - red.

-- CONTRAST --

Contrast is the dissimilarity or difference between things. Another meaning for contrast is in the context of color. It can be the opposition of items that are compared or the act of distinguishing via differences comparison. The act of linguistics contrast is the act of expressing the distinctions between words. (It is used in the writing form compare and contrast.) Kind of like back and white but different.
