Andy Su Biopackage

Instant noodles are by far one of the most commonly found fast food available around the world. Each individual serving is packaged in its own plastic bag. Now, that is A LOT of plastic waste. By simply replacing the environmentally-damaging petroleum-based plastic with something “green”, the negatives effects doesn’t seem so bad now.

For my project, I used Polylatic Acid (PLA) plastics. It looks and feels no different from conventional plastic. Printing works the same way as regular plastic packaging. The only difference is that PLA plastic is biodegradable. PLA synthesis does cost more than fabricating petroleum-based plastic, but I believe that a little higher cost goes to long way to help our environment.

For assembly purposes, the black edges are glued together, and so are the white edges, respectively. This ensures a tight seal and efficient use of packaging material.

Extra note: The mock-up is in black and white due to not having a functioning colour printer. The background colour is green, the logo is light blue (text) and yellow (backcolour), the star is dark blue, and the texts are in black.
