Sara -Packaging

Ink
The design on the package will be printed in one colour with soy ink.

Soybean oil is made from a renewable resource (soybeans). Soy ink, unlike traditional petroleum-based ink, is low in VOCs (volatile organic compounds) which can negatively effect the environment and human health.

Material
The package will be made of unbleached boxboard made from recycled materials.

Paper is often bleached to achieve a bright white colour, however the bleaching process is harmful to the environment. Chlorine gas is a common chemical that is used to bleach paper and is very toxic. Using chlorine to bleach paper produces dioxins which are hazardous chemical compounds. Dioxins have been shown to be highly toxic to living things. They do not readily degrade and can stay in the environment as compounds for years. Dioxins build up in our fat cells and have been shown to increase the risk of cancer when exposed to it for long amounts of time. This is also true for animals other than humans as well.

Unbleached paper is chlorine free so it does not produce dioxins and other harmful chemicals.

Glue
The glue that holds the bottom of the box together will be non-toxic.

Product
The balloons themselves will be biodegradable.
